The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federally funded training program that enables unemployed and low-income older adults to gain work experience in community service settings, such as schools, hospitals, and daycare centers. Participants typically work 20 hours a week and earn the highest minimum wage rate in effect at the federal, state, or local level. The SCSEP program operates in all states. To be eligible in Alabama, a participant must be an Alabama resident, unemployed, age 55 or older, and have an income below 125% of the federal poverty level.

If you have patients who may qualify for this program, we encourage you to make them aware of it. Interested individuals should contact their local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 1-800-AGELINE (1-800-243-5463) to inquire about eligibility, available positions, and how to enroll in the program.
