Senior Employment Program for Older Adults

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federally funded training program that enables unemployed and low-income older adults to gain work experience in community service settings, such as schools, hospitals, and daycare centers. Participants typically work 20 hours a week and earn the highest minimum wage rate in effect at the federal, state, or local level. The SCSEP program operates in all states. To be eligible in Alabama, a participant must be an Alabama resident, unemployed, age 55 or older, and have an income below 125% of the federal poverty level.

Interested individuals should contact their local Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 1-800-AGELINE (1-800-243-5463) to inquire about eligibility, available positions, and how to enroll in the program.
